i.m not sure why i have started the last three or for sketchbook/journals with the shovel handles except that i like them. this is a new book a gift from another artist. i have never used this paper before and it is very smooth. i like how the ballpoint pen rolls over it.i will post this page and more as they progress.

It is a new pattern to try. What I love is to be lost in the motion of the pen on the page. There is a quiet joy as the lines start and move and finally fill the page edge to edge.

In the motion of the pen on paper lives the joy. How it is transformed into something that is marketed and sold is something that is suggested to me often, something I dabble in occasionally but something in which there I find no joy.

I saw this question posed yesterday on a tweet and I realized that I had never really thought about it. It is a a question that has changing answers. For a long time I have thought it was enough to make the art work and then the magic artwork fairy would come down and pluck me up and the crowds of people would want to buy the drawings and the business of art would make and manage itself. But now I have a small web presence I have some clarity about were my work is in big world.and then I look at my choices and maybe making the work is enough and that I am ok with having a day job and not ever developing business skills....and the day job calls.....

No mater how much time I have in the morning I can never have enough.But I am thankful for the time I have. I get up at 5:50 am. to do morning drawings before work. That is by far the best time of day. This will wait until tonight to be finished

As I was finishing this page I was thinking this morning about how humbling the web really is. When I did not meet artists from around the globe I had the luxury and the isolation of the thought that what I did what I created was unique and remarkable. It made me wonder why no one was running to my door to promote my work as the next greatest thing. Now, what I have is a more realistic view of myself and my art work.There is a sea of work out in the world and a warm pool of others who share a style and focus.

It is a new week. Back from a trip to Mum's. we have a new foster dog and we are still looking for a home for our other foster. I am slowly getting back into my creative pattern. travel rattles that rhythm.I guess I am opposite of many people travel does not always inspire me. I am happy with routine.

Yesterday on Flickr I posted the fish page. I was worrying over the size of the sketchbook,9"x12", much bigger than I usually work. This morning I found myself rolling in the vast space and making sweeping lines with my pen and pencil.But now,sadly,I is time for me to be at work. I was looking at this blog and realized that I post a lot of artwork but do not talk about it. So I am starting a new trend and will write a bit more about the work, why I make it and what I am into. Currently I have been captured by a zentangle Mooka pattern. Although the challenge has passed I just keep on going with it.

Visited to the sketchbook project 2011 when it visited ATL. this weekend. I enjoyed doing the sketchbook (posted on this blog) and I was very impressed with how they organized and showed the work. I am looking forward to 2012.

The Art-House sketchbook 2011 project started out as something to do

a place for one of my books to go but as I reach the end of this book it seems to

be moving me forward. So I have signed up for the fiction project and will continue

to explore the lines and grids themes with word and image. It isn't that I would not continue

on my own but the motivation of a deadline and a home for the next book to raises

the level of work a bit.
